Earlier this summer, we introduced our first list of must-read books recommended by industry leaders. We’ve added a few more to the list. These books span a wide range of topics, including risk management strategies, geopolitical trends, methods of communication, and creating memorable events. Check out these recommendations below:
Recommended by Paul Thompson, Executive Vice President, National Security Solutions at Morgan 6
Story of a Secret State by Jan Karski
“My all-time favorite book on underground resistance elements in WWII-occupied Poland. The author wrote this book in 1944, prior to the war’s conclusion, and hoped it would bring about US support to the Polish people. It’s amazingly written, filled with intense fast-paced action and drama, but also describes the partisan force’s structure, methods of communications and operations against the occupying Nazi forces, and the lessons they had to learn the hard way. It is a textbook on resistance operations and should be required reading for anyone working in the Irregular Warfare or Special Operations fields.”
High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard
“This book helped me to build better personal habits, social habits, and then keep those positive and high-performing traits. It asks hard questions and helps build a path to meet your own goals. A great first step into personal coaching and self-improvement.”
Recommended by Joe Guzman, CoFounder and CEO of Space Cowboy
Antifragile: Things That Gain From Disorder by Nassim Taleb
“Reading this book helped me understand risk and apply strategies to help manage it.”
Recommended by Marcella Caldwell, Partner at Distinctive Edge Partners
The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker

This book delves into the nuanced art of creating meaningful and memorable events, providing invaluable insights into crafting gatherings that truly resonate with participants. Parker’s emphasis on intentional design, purposeful invitations, and fostering genuine connections are an essential read for anyone looking to elevate their event planning and create gatherings that leave a lasting impression.”
